How do I apply to be on other (non-Canadian) delegations?

What are the relevant application deadlines?

Application deadline for the Canadian Delegation and for the IMF delegate is January 15, 2010 4:30 pm Pacific time.

There are four rounds of application for the G11 (G20/Non-G8) and delegates will be selected on a rolling basis with preference given to early applicants. The deadlines for the four rounds of application are December 31, January 16, January 30 and February 13.

When will I be notified if I have been accepted onto the Canadian Delegation or not?

Successful Canadian delegates and the IMF delegate will be notified by mid to end of February. Successful G11 delegates will be notified in one to two weeks after each round of application.

Will YFID notify all applicants of their application status at time of selection (whether or not the applicant has been selected)?

YFID will contact successful delegates only.

How will my application to the Canadian Delegation be reviewed and on what basis might an application be selected?

The applications will be judged in two rounds. The first round will be done by the executives of the Canadian organizing committee. Then those applicants who make it onto the second round will be evaluated by a panel of judges composed of Canadian professors, civil servants, business leaders, former delegates, and journalists. This is to ensure the transparency and legitimacy of the selection process.

Selection criteria will be based on teamwork/leadership experiences, interest/expertise in global issues, communication Skills, international experience/cultural sensitivity and variety of background.

I am a foreign exchange student studying in Vancouver. Can I apply to be on a delegation from one of the G20 countries (other than Canada)? How might I do that?

Absolutely! We encourage foreign nationals to apply to be on the G20/Non-G8 member state delegations. Simply submit an application package consisting of a filled application form, a 500-word motivation letter and a CV to .

How much is the delegation fee for participants?

The cost of participation in the G8/G20 Youth Summit is $600 CAD and is due in full on March 1, 2010.

What does the delegation fee include?

The delegation fee included a nifty delegation package, 6 nights accommodations, 12 meals (5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 2 gala dinners), as well as access to all daytime special events and networking sessions with industry leaders.

Delegates are responsible for their own transportation to Vancouver.

Does YFID provide any financial support for conference fees/travel fees?

Unfortunately, YFID does not provide any financial support for successful candidates. However, most past delegates were able to secure partial funding from their universities, faculties and departments. YFID will assist in appealing to potential sponsors by writing formal letters.

Are there any time commitments to the Canadian Delegation between the selection phase and actual Summit?

Successful delegates are expected to research their respective topics according to summit agenda and establish positions through a position paper prior to summit in order to contribute to a fruitful and dynamic discussion during the summit.

If I am selected to be on the Canadian Delegation, what are my relevant responsibilities up until and throughout the Summit?

All candidates will be responsible for arranging their own travels to Vancouver, including any necessary travel documents. However, the Summit will provide accommodations, lunch, and some dinners throughout the week of the event.

Do I need visa to visit Canada?
